Internship #9

My Mentors are Jean Isaacs and Blythe Barton.

Jean Isaacs
Dance Choreographer
Jean Isaacs was born in _____. She was an independent child, always off to herself reading. At her school, she had to work a little harder than everyone else because she and her family were different (Italian). She started dancing at a very young age.
She later went to college and studied Liberal Arts, Sociology, Psychology, and History of Art. She was an extremely curious person, and stayed fascinated by things. Jean graduated in languages, but was confused by life. She didn’t know what path to take after college. But she knew she had a yearning to dance.
Mrs. Isaacs became a professional dancer. One day, while she was in class, her teacher asked if she wanted to teach the class instead. She accepted the offer, and has been teaching for over 35 years. She’s been producing dance for 35 years non-stop. The longest time she has taken away from dance has been only 2 weeks. Dancing is her life.

Blythe Barton
Dance Artist
Blythe was born and raised in Juneau, Alaska. She started with gymnastics when she was just a little girl. Then she began dancing in middle school. She later danced after school, a couple hours each day. She got straight A’s because it was important to her family. Blythe didn’t know exactly what she wanted to do for her life career-wise, but she thought about teaching, because that’s what she enjoyed.

She went to Chapman University in Orange County, because one of her high school teachers recommended her there. She loved the college experience and enjoyed school very much. One of her professors in college then recommended dance graduate school, Florida State University.

Blythe knew dancing was something she loved, but never thought she would actually make it into a career. She became a dance teacher for a couple years, then began working and dancing with Jean Isaacs San Diego Dance Theater. She performs, teaches, and works with the business for marketing and etc.
